Agriculture Drones
by Trevon Foster, Chase Grubbs, and Wyatt Long
Agricultural drones are a military innovation now commonly found on huge farms and vineyards. These drones are relatively cheap and help farmers become much more economical. These drones are equipped with cameras and improve monitoring of crops. This enables vineyards owners to get better water supply and pest management to their crops right away. These drones also save thousands of dollars in time for busy farmers.
Computer Stick
by Matthew Bapties and Kasie Fowler
Microsoft has a created a new form of desktop computer called a “Computer Stick.” It is a fully operational desktop mode computer; however, it has no screen, keyboard, or mouse. It contains the software needed to run itself in a small discreet “stick.” It turns on just as a normal computer, but instead of being plugged into a monitor or attached to a screen. It has an HDMI import feature so that the user can plug it into anything with another import. For example, it can be plugged into the television, and it would show in full Windows 8.1 mode. Since there is no built in mouse or keyboard, you can either plug them into the USB import or enable the Bluetooth capability and wirelessly type, click, and operate the computer from anywhere within range.
With these new capabilities, you could sit in any chair with your keyboard and mouse comfortable at your side and use your computer on your ninety-two inch flat screen television. The best part about this new technology is that the “computer” is small enough to fit in your pocket, and you could take it anywhere you want, and most importantly you can use it anywhere.
The stick itself has two gigabytes of RAM memory and an additional thirty-two gigabytes of on board storage with a micro SD card slot to increase memory space if needed or to import files previously obtained. Wi-Fi connectivity is connected through 802.11bgn. There are two USB ports and one HTMI port, but they are including and extender for the HTMI port so that you can plug two or more HTMI cords into different screens to be viewed in different places at the same time. With Bluetooth 4.0, you can have multiple times of similar devices working at the same time. This is the first model of the project, and there are many aspects that will be improved in later models, but for right now it is not made to replace a work computer because it has to be upgraded to a higher level. They are still working on adding that power and sustainability to run as a normal computer would in the stick form.
The Pau Hana Big EZ Angler
by Jared Halvorsen and Mary Kate Perry
Stand up paddle boarding was first introduced as a leisure water sport. It is considered to be one of the fastest growing activities of today. Just recently fisherman have discovered the activity of standup paddle boarding, and they became interested. While SUP fishing provides anglers the ability to stand and fish, versus fishing from a kayak, navigating on a SUP with fishing gear can be very difficult and tiring. WaveJet decided to come up with a solution for this issue, so they created the WaveJet Pau Hana big EZ angler. It is an 11 foot long paddleboard with rod holders, and an area for coolers or tackle boxes; but it comes with a built in lithium ion 20 lb. thrust electric motor. While combining the mobility pros of a boat and the lightweight portability of a Paddle board, WaveJet has created the ultimate fishing vessel. The built in 20 lb. thrust motor makes it easy for anglers to navigate to their favorite spot quickly or maneuver through the flats with ease, and the 50 lb. SUP platform acts as a extremely portable and lightweight vessel. But some things are too good to be true; the WaveJet Pau Hana big EZ Angler has a pricey tag of $4,995.
Goldfish Cancer Survivor
How much would you invest in your fish? Fifty dollars? One hundred dollars? An individual from Melbourne, Australia spent around $300.00 on a life-saving operation for her ten-year-old goldfish, George. Dr. Tristan Rich of Fort Smith Animal Hospital performed the operation on September 11, 2014. Little George had a brain tumor and required surgery.
He was given an anesthetic, and a tube ran down his throat to provide water. The surgery only took an hour, and George was given painkillers after the surgery. He had four stitches and a new bucket of water for his recovery room.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first procedure of its kind on a goldfish.
